Drinks

An in depth guide into how drinks are added and edited in Ethyl

On this page

List Page

The first page you will come to is a list of current drinks, including their categories and authors, organised by date

  1. The order of drinks can be changed. Choose date or name to sort by.

  2. Filter by different options. Including by Author, Location, and Publication Status

  3. You can also Bulk Edit drinks. Select the drinks you need and choose Bulk Edit from the actions list

Edit Screen

When adding a drink you will come to the edit screen first. Its useful to know that the panels can be moved, and closed or opened, and once set they will remain so whenever you enter the edit screen again.

  1. Current Menu This toggle switch allows you to choose if the drink is currently on the menu, or if it is no longer an active item. Current items will appear highlighted throughout Ethyl to allow you to select or focus on them more easily

  2. Drink Measurement From version 2.0 all drinks are made in either Grams or Millilitres, so you can choose here which you intend to work in

  3. Original Spec This allows you to choose the amount of an item, the item itself from the dropdown, add a note, tick if the item is perishable or not, and then choose if the item should be counted by Ethyl. This last part is the more complex to explain, but allows for things like Mint Leaves to be added, as a non-costed item.

  4. Style Choose the drink style from the drop down to allow Ethyl to calculate dilution and therefore ABV

  5. Method Choose how the drink is made in service, for example is it Built or Stirred, or add a custom method for that drink

  6. Garnish Choose a garnish from the current options, or add a specific one for that drink. Complex garnishes can be stored and scaled similarly to Ingredients

  7. Glass Choose a glass from the current options, or add a specific one for that drink. Details for each glass, along with images can be stored, helping to train and improve consistency

  8. Ice Choose what ice is used for the drink, if applicable, you can also add costs against ice types should you need

  9. Batched? This toggles if the drink has its ingredients batched together, or if its made to the original spec each time

  10. Batch Pour If the drink is batched, then enter the amount of the batch required to make the drink during service, other perishable/non-batched ingredients are added below

  11. Service Spec Choose the amount and item here that you use for service, select if its perishable or not as well

  12. Drink Price Set the price you intend to sell the drink at. You can adjust this live on the front end to see how it impacts your Revenue and GP

  13. Batch Size If this is batched drink, you can choose the default size Ethyl will calculate for a batch. This is always adjustable on the front end, but a default amount can help

  14. Bottled? This toggle allows you to set if the drink is actually bottled, and therefore set the bottle, label price and cap price. You can't choose a bottle if the drink isn't set to Batched as well

  15. Bottle Type Chosen from the Glassware, this allows you to store the cost of the bottle along with images and capacity

  16. Label Price The cost of the label/labels

  17. Cap Price This may be as simple as just the cost of the cap, but if you seal, or wax the bottles, you can add this price in here too

  18. Allergens If this drink has some allergen element that is not selected in the items/ingredients then tick it here. Otherwise Ethyl will pull the allergen information from the selected ingredients

  19. Core Stock and Par Level This is the start of a new feature not yet released. The idea being you can set a batched drink as a core stock item, along with ingredients you make, and then Ethyl will be able to help track stock levels through sales

  20. Location Maybe the most important extra, this allows you to choose where the drink appears in Ethyl. Locations can be used like Menus, or Categories, or even as if they are physical locations

Missing Fields?

Some fields are conditional on others, for example Batch Size requires the drink be set as Batched, so if you don't see a field, it may be another field that needs changing first.
